Common Causes of Excessive Hunger

Do you feel hungry all the time? It can be frustrating to feel like a bottomless pit. Your mood, energy levels, and thoughts become taken up by an increasingly apparent appetite. It can start to consume your day and leave you feeling at the mercy of food.

 

Common causes of excessive hunger include:

  • A poor diet
    • Eating nutrient poor foods, such as refined carbohydrates can make you feel hungry all the time. Refined carbohydrates turn to sugar quickly after consumption. This sugar has no nutritional benefit. In fact, it takes vital nutrients to process all the sugar from the refined carbohydrates you just ate. To make matters worse, further nutrients are needed to process additives and preservatives often found in processed foods like refined carbohydrates. This leaves your body nutritionally tapped and in need of more nutrients, which can make you feel forever hungry. Sugar is also addictive and causes cravings, intensifying the feeling of constant hunger.
  • Dysbiosis- an overgrowth of bad bacteria and other pathogens in your gut.
    • Your intestine should be covered with healthy gut flora. Dysbiosis is when you have abnormal intestinal flora. This can be caused by bad bacteria, yeast, and/or parasites. These bad pathogens feed on the food you consume, which leaves you always feeling hungry.
  • Malnourishment
    • Over restriction of food can leave you excessively hungry. While it may cause you to lose weight initially,  it is not sustainable or healthy. Not giving your body the nutrients it needs for optimal health has many other detrimental side effects as well. You can lose weight and be well fed!

 

The good news?

You don’t have to live with the symptom of excess hunger forever. By eating a nutrient dense, whole food diet you will squash those hunger pains! If you address the root causes, you can fix the underlying issue. This will allow your body to flourish with proper nutrition. Finding a healthcare practitioner who can help may be necessary, especially if parasites/dysbiosis is indicated. Correcting your diet is key to addressing excessive hunger. Certain supplements may be necessary to help rid your body of bad pathogens.

Excessive hunger can lead to other issues like increased weight, decreased energy levels, and  an overwhelmed digestive system. These issues can further exacerbate the underlying issue, which creates a domino effect.

If you feel constantly hungry, listen to your body.  See if you can find a reason or a pattern. Did you just eat a meal with a lot of refined carbohydrates? Is it nighttime?

These are all confessions from your body. Listen to them, and start unraveling your body’s story. This will help you get to the root cause of the problem so you can live a healthier, more fulfilling life.
