Acknowledgment. Having a healthy relationship with food.

As a society we acknowledge and condemn addictions to heroin, alcohol, cigarettes, cocaine etc. However, we don’t acknowledge the power food has over us and how hard it is to overcome it. You can use food as a tool to nourish your body, mind, and soul. You can also use food for strictly pleasure. The latter creates a slippery slope that leads to poor eating, addiction, and poor health.

We must acknowledge the power of food. Both the good, and the bad, in order to have a healthy relationship with food.

Acknowledge.

Acknowledging that certain foods can be addictive. In order to heal the body and maintain optimal health we must avoid these foods. Certain foods can bind to opioid receptors in the brain making them addictive. Common addictive foods are high sugar foods, processed foods, refined foods and foods containing gluten, and dairy.

Acknowledge.

Any emotional connections you have with food. Using food for emotional reasons is a short-term solution that creates more long-term problems, both mentally and physically. Addressing these habits will allow you to not only eat better but feel better as well.

Acknowledge.

What you eat. Being in denial of what you’re putting into your body is only harming your health. Keeping track of what you eat by writing in a food log is a great way to keep yourself accountable.

Acknowledge.

How hard it is to overcome eating bad foods. Give yourself some credit. Many people have emotional attachments to foods they are addicted too. This adds another layer of complexity that makes it even harder to give up those bad foods. Acknowledging this is critical. It can allow you to reframe your mindset on these foods, so you can see them as what they really are. A bad habit that’s harming your health.

Acknowledge.

It takes time to switch your diet to one that is healthy. It’s a marathon not a sprint. Setting a small manageable goal each week will allow you to make progress without getting overwhelmed.

Acknowledge.

What foods you eat that are bad for your health. If you aren’t sure what those foods are, a qualified practitioner will be able to help.

Acknowledge.

The power in healthy eating. Whole foods contain nutrients. When you supply your body with the nutrients it needs to thrive you will feel amazing. This is because our body is made of and runs on nutrients. When you eat a nutrient-dense diet, you’re giving your body the tools it needs for great health. In return your body rewards you with energy and vitality.

Acknowledge.

Your body talk. Listen to it. What is your body confessing to you? Your body is constantly communicating to you through signs and symptoms. When we listen to our bodies and respect what they have to say, optimal healing and health will occur.

When we acknowledge the connection between food and our health, we are able to take control of our health and quality of life. This is not an easy task but it’s one worth implementing. It can be challenging finding healthy foods you love to eat while taking the time to listen to your body and what’s it is saying. However, when you do, you will find you have more energy to do the things you truly love to do.
