Before I immersed myself in holistic health I thought I ate healthy. My friends and family thought I ate healthy and I would often get comments from them about how good my eating habits seemed to be.
However, my diet was far from healthy.
I was calorie conscious. Which steered me towards low-fat foods. Lots of vegetables but also a lot of processed food that was low in calories but high in additives like yogurt, soups, and pretzels. I thought that’s what healthy eating was all about
Once I started living a more holistic lifestyle I realized how my diet needed an overhaul. I started eating more fat and whole foods. Yet I still wasn’t eating the right diet for me.
My health was failing and I didn’t seek help with my diet because I thought I was eating as healthy as possible. I thought getting a second opinion on what I was eating would be a waste of time. In my mind, my diet was perfect.
Boy was I wrong!
Thinking my diet was perfect amidst all my health issues was extremely detrimental to my healing process. It just set me back. I thought I had tried every diet and I was eating as healthy as I could. WRONG! Even though I had cleaned up my diet I was still ignorant of a few key concepts that are pivotal to eat healthfully.
Once I started the process to become an NTP I realized how much I didn’t know and how much I still had to learn. I realized thinking you have ‘tried it all’ was a mindset that only held me back from learning and healing.
When it comes to diet there is no one size fits all.
However, there are a few foundational principles that ALL healthy diets need to follow in order to give you optimal health. Knowing the foundational principles of what it means to eat healthy gives you the power to take control of your own health and the health of your family. It takes the guess work out of healthy eating. It allows you to feel confident in the choices you make and makes making those choices a hell of a lot easier for you.
